The office and factory functions are separated by a courtyard and verandah, with the unexpected drama being created by the curved roof of the verandah.
A factory for home textiles on the outskirts of Bengaluru. A tight site, and the clients’ need for an efficient box to work within guided this project. Unlike their earlier factory at Karur, where the context, the town and its clues provided the framework for the factory, this site sits in an industrial complex, flanked by factories on all sides.
The efficiency of light, large north and east windows and a simple plan guided the courtyard factory architectural design. The office and factory functions are separated by a courtyard and verandah, with the unexpected drama being created by the curved roof of the verandah.
Workspace guided by the efficiency of light
The proportions of the box, its structural thickness and the inclusion of the coconut trees played an important role in the design of courtyard factory architecture building.
