India’s rural communities suffer from a significant shortage of healthcare facilities. Despite 70% of the population residing in rural areas, less than 25% of the country’s healthcare facilities are located there. This disparity has led to significant differences in health outcomes between rural and urban areas, with rural residents living on average up to 5 years less than their urban counterparts.
The JSW Foundation has initiated the JSW Sanjeevani Multispeciality Hospital in Dolvi village, Maharashtra, to address this gap in the rural Raigad district. Situated just two hours from the global megacity of Mumbai, the hospital serves a 50-km stretch previously devoid of any multispeciality healthcare facilities.
The UIA (International Union of Architects) Award 2030 is a global competition aimed at recognizing architectural projects that significantly contribute to the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The competition seeks to honor designs that exemplify sustainability, social responsibility, and environmental stewardship. Projects are evaluated based on their impact on achieving the SDGs, their innovative approach to design and construction, and their potential to inspire future sustainable architectural practices. The UIA Award 2030 aims to highlight the crucial role most sustainable architecture firms play in creating a sustainable future and encourages architects worldwide to integrate the principles of the SDGs into their work.
