The plan aims to strike a symmetry & balance with dining blocks spanning north-south, punctuated into four fingers by streets.

Amidst the SR University campus design, the dining block was meant to produce 16000 meals in a day. Students take meals in three shifts, therefore allowing the design to break the scale of the programme into a two-storey structure with streets between so it effectively becomes & dining halls in two levels, with 3 streets between.

The plan aims to strike a symmetry & balance with dining blocks spanning north-south, punctuated into four fingers by streets. These streets have been designed to be 6m wide to allow for interaction amongst the students. The central street concludes with a lush green courtyard, while the others in an amphitheatre-like setting. This amphitheatre leads to the upper level, adding the feeling of an outdoor foodcourt.

Sun orientation

The nerve centre of the dining block - the kitchen and Back of the house, span along the south wall, shielding the other programmes from the sun.

Structural lightness

There is an inherent lightness in the structure, composed of circular twin columns, which is further accentuated by the north light truss roof. The steel roof, spanning the 4 dining halls, brings in uniform soft light into the space. The skin of the building is glass on the upper levels and the ground floor opens into a mosquito free landscaped atmosphere.
