The Nirvana Film Studio at Bangalore receives Small Project of the Year - 2012 award at the World Architecture Festival
Nirvana - the 2400 sq.ft. workspace at Bangalore, Karnataka is an office space for an ad film production company that thinks out of the box. With over 700 entries from more than 60 countries, this project won the Small Project of the Year award in the category of office spaces at the fifth World Architecture Festival (WAF) held at Singapore in 2012.
The workspace is designed to maximize natural light and climate responsiveness, with a central staircase core and interconnecting levels, creating a sense of openness and interaction. Key features include the innovative use of shear walls, floating treads, and a blend of wood, concrete, and glass materials, which together enhance the light and shadow play within the space. The use of salvaged materials, and the efficient, sustainable design that minimizes electricity usage and integrated rainwater harvesting, gives an edge to the project.
The World Architecture Festival (WAF) is an annual festival and awards ceremony, one of the most prestigious events dedicated to the architecture and development industries all over the world. Over a thousand projects by some of the best architecture firms are entered in the competition for the awards and more than 550 of these are shortlisted for live presentation at the festival.
